Every year the Merano’s Equal Opportunities Department is hosting the Women in Art festival: “Merano che spettacolo di donne! – Meran, Frauen in Szene!”, a regular event that takes place in March, on the occasion of Women’s Day, and that has the declared aim of giving visibility to Merano’s female artists. Each year the focus is on a different artistic expression. I was asked to participate with an illustration or graphic work. This year’s title is ‘Women Power Future’: I wanted my work to convey a sense of hope for the future. So I depicted a female figure climbing a ladder to symbolise the possibility and desire to ‘climb higher’, investing in one’s own abilities and qualities. I tried to find a personal approach to this topical issue. The ladder represented in the drawing is my own: the objects that act as rungs are those that have helped me and are still helping me to feel empowered in my own way, starting from the crayons I used as a child to the brushes and oil colours… the ladder does not stop here! The hands represent the people who are accompanying and supporting me on this path, both male and female hands.
